Black Cinema Connection will explore the vast contributions of African-Americans to both the large and small screens and is an ongoing compilation of photos, trailers, reviews, facts, trivia, quotes, gossip and opinions concerning Black film. In addition this site will attempt to provide information on a comprehensive listing of films which fit one or all of the following criteria:  (1) feature all or predominately Black casts; (2) aimed at predominantly Black audiences; (3) are produced, written, directed, and/or performed by Black artists intended for the African-American market; and (4) feature themes which provide a glimpse of Black culture, Black life or Black history.

The titles referenced on this site are American films which provide popular entertainment.  Therefore documentaries (titles based on a dramatization of an actual person’s life, actual events, and docu-dramas do not fall into this category), animation, adult films, foreign films or shorts are not included.  We have chosen to focus on entertainment titles as these have had an enormous impact on shaping and perpetuating stereotypes and have a significant influence upon African-American culture.

Black Cinema Connection uses research gathered from reviews, posters, articles, books, movie websites, press kits, and most importantly viewing movies to build an extensive databank of Black film titles.  Not just a list of the best and worst titles, but an all-encompassing resource of information including everything from the good and the bad, the old and the new, feature films, made-for-TV and direct-to-video titles, independent films, Hollywood movies, obscure titles, popular titles and all titles in between.

Many posts will spotlight a particular film to provide potential viewers some insight into what the movie is about through stills, detailed synopses, and interesting facts.  No attempt is made to provide a comprehensive review or analysis of the merit of the film, but to encourage viewers to watch the movie and form their own opinions.
