Barbershop 3 The Next CutRelease Date:  4/15/16
Genre:  Comedy
Rating:  Not Available
Studio:  Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Cube Vision, New Line Cinema
Director:  Malcolm D. Lee
Cast:  Ice Cube (Calvin Palmer), Common (Jabari), Nicki Minaj (Draya), Anthony Anderson (J.D.), Cedric the Entertainer (Eddie), Regina Hall (Angie), Garcelle Beauvais (Loretta), Sean Patrick Thomas (Jimmy), Eve (Terri), Deon Cole (Dante), Tyga (Whack MC), J. B. Smoove.

Details:  On this date MovieWeb reported that Barbershop: The Next Cut is bringing the Beauty Shop inside their doors for a joint business to help both parties keep afloat, and with the girls and guys working side by side, you can bet that every day is going to be a party. That is, if the raining bullets don’t accidentally kill someone first. There’s a serious new problem in town. And it needs to be addressed by a community that can actually do something about it. Ice Cube’s Calvin Palmer has a young son growing up in a Chicago suburb where the presence of gang violence is growing by the day. And it is encroaching on his business. It’s a serious issue that Barbershop: The Next Cut seems to be cutting into with some humor, making for a slightly more serious affair than past sequels.

Joining the cast this time around is also Common, who is now married to the only woman working on the Barber side of the shop, Terri, a character being reprised by Eve. Their personal journey will be one of the many side stories on display in Barbershop 3, as each of the shop’s employees work through their own struggles in the face of a neighborhood that seems to be under constant attack. School Daze

Details:  The Source (2.14.14) reports, it’s official, School Daze 2 is coming to the big screen. The 1988 cult-classic will finally be getting a sequel.  Twenty-five years ago, the film delved into color and social issues that adults who attended HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) dealt with on a daily basis. It seems like that will remain the plot, as Spike Lee wants this movie to be a contemporary version of the prequel.

According to Lee, the script is in fact finished and he hopes that Lawrence Fishburne can agree to a role in the picture.  Lee also unfolded that the film will shed light on social issues that today’s HBCU students face like homophobia and the pledging process.

Story:  No official synopsis yet, but the original was set at a historically black university where fraternity and sorority members clash with other students in a politically charged musical.    Source(s):  The Source; Allmovie.

Update:  Shadow & Act reported on 11/19/14, the synopsis reads: “A Spike Lee Joint, DA SWEET BLOOD OF JESUS is a new kind of love story, one that centers on an addiction to blood that once doomed a long forgotten ancient African tribe. When Dr. Hess Green (Stephen Tyrone Williams) is introduced to a mysteriously cursed artifact by an art curator, Lafayette Hightower (Elvis Nolasco), he is uncontrollably drawn into a newfound thirst for blood that overwhelms his soul.  He however is not a vampire.  Lafayette quickly succumbs to the ravenous nature of the infliction but leaves Hess a transformed man.  Soon Lafayette’s wife, Ganja Hightower (Zaraah Abrahams), comes looking for her husband and becomes involved in a dangerous romance with Hess that questions the very nature of love, addiction, sex, and status in our seemingly sophisticated society.  A reinterpretation of Bill Gunn’s horror cult film “Ganja & Hess”, which played as a Critics Choice at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, Spike Lee’s stylized thriller features an Original Score by Bruce Hornsby.”

The movie got ripped really hard by critics when it debuted this summer at the annual American Black Film Festival.
