Story:  Inside an impoverished community in Chicago, Marcus, an ex-convicted felon returns from prison after eight years 0f incarceration. A product of a failed family structure, Marcus, like so many others in his community, functioned under a street-code of savagery. The “Gangster Disciples” governed the territories, and as a former member he lived in ongoing regret of the mob-related acts that led him to prison.

His determination to fit into common society is partnered with his first love, Shonna. Once a sheltered young lady of stern upbringing, Shonna experienced atrocities as a pre-teen which later led to promiscuity and prostitution. Marcus’s release from prison was her breath of hope.

Carl, his wife Lorena (Zulay Henao), son Carl Jr., daughter Allie Black (Bresha Webb) and cousin Cronut (Lil Duval) pack up and move to Beverly Hills. January 16 – Happy Birthday Ralph Cooper

Ralph Cooper

(January 16, 1908 – August 4, 1992)

Best known for starting and emceeing Amateur Night at the historic Apollo Theater in 1934.  Mr. Cooper was also an actor who played supporting roles in Hollywood features such as Blonde Venus (1932), Lloyd’s of London (1936) and White Hunter (1936).  In addition he produced, directed and starred in several race films alongside the likes of Lena Horne and Duke Ellington and was often referred to as Dark Gable, the Black Clark Gable.  Source(s): The New York Times; African American Registry; Entertainment Weekly.
